Elisabeth Coudoux

cellist - NICA artist since 2019
Elisabeth Coudoux by Nadine Heller-Menzel

Elisabeth Coudoux is a cellist at the interface of different musical genres: free improvisation, experimental music, new composed music and jazz. A classical study as a basis was followed by jazz studies in Cologne with Frank Gratkowski and Prof. Dieter Manderscheid.

She plays, among others, in her own ensemble Emißatet, which explores radical sounds, in a duo with bassist Robert Landfermann, in the freely improvising cello quartet The Octopus, in the more melodically acting quartet phase : : vier and has already released an unaccompanied solo CD. She is a musician with her own language and sonic versatility, who likes to change musical sides from time to time. She also works in interdisciplinary projects with dancers, visual artists and writers. The projects with Tina Tonagel »FrauFranke50Kilohertz« and Pascal Niggenkemper’s quartet »Beat the Odds« represent an exciting exploration of technology/electronics.

Elisabeth is co-founder of IMPAKT, a collective for free improvisation in Cologne with the aim of attracting listeners to improvised music.

Her collaboration with musicians such as Stefano Scodanibbio, Xavier Charles, Sean Ali, Tatsuya Nakatani, Peter Evans, Wilbert De Joode, Stefanie Griffin, Biliana Voutchkova, Barre Phillips, Ernst Reijseger, Tristan Honsinger, Frank Gratkowski, Frantz Loriot, Sofia Jernberg, Albert Markos and Szilard Mezei has been particularly influential.

In 2016 she received the scholarship »Musikerinnen mit Kind« from the Frauenkulturbüro NRW e.V. and in 2019 the ensemble sponsorship from the state of NRW for her ensemble »Emißatett«.
